Green Transition: Arneg participates at Montecitorio for a more sustainable cold chain

On May 13, 2025, Arneg took part in the press conference For Sustainable Italian Refrigeration – Proposals to Accelerate the Ecological Transition in the Cold Chain,” held at the Press Room of Palazzo Montecitorio.

The event, promoted by Legambiente and Assocold with the support of Hon. Patty L’Abbate, Vice President of the VIII Environment Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, shed light on a strategically important issue for the environmental and industrial future of the country: the need for a sustainable shift in commercial refrigeration.

Representing Arneg, Eng. Zambotto, Refrigeration Engineering Director, spoke to emphasize the urgency of an ecological transition in the cold chain. His speech highlighted the key role of energy efficiency and the use of natural refrigerants, such as CO₂ and propane, as essential levers for low environmental impact refrigeration.

Cutting-edge technologies, integration between HVAC systems and refrigeration, and the use of artificial intelligence are now indispensable tools for building a smarter, more efficient, and sustainable supply chain.

Despite Italy being a global leader in the production of technologies based on natural refrigerants, the paradox remains that it holds the European record for HFC emissions in the commercial refrigeration sector. Every year, around 700 tons of F-gases—greenhouse gases with a climate-warming potential thousands of times greater than CO₂—are released into the atmosphere in our country.

This critical situation threatens to undermine the objectives set by the new European F-gas Regulation 2024/573, which calls for the progressive phase-out of HFCs by 2050.

During the event, Legambiente presented a report featuring a concrete roadmap to accelerate the sector’s ecological transition, structured around four proposals to the Government:

  1. Financial incentives in the 2025 Budget Law to convert the most polluting systems;
  2. Information and training campaigns aimed at technicians, citizens, and businesses;
  3. Regulatory simplifications to encourage the adoption of natural refrigerants;
  4. Introduction of a carbon credit for responsible companies investing in low-impact technologies.

Arneg is proud to actively contribute to this transition, offering its know-how and concrete technologies to support a sustainable cold chain ready to meet the challenges of the future.
